I am personally familiar with The Athenaeum because I used to work at Caltech, where it’s located. This venue is nestled within the campus of Caltech (a science and research university) and is the exclusive “members-only club” of the university. “The Ath” is available for rent for various types of events. If you’re looking for a beautiful indoor/ outdoor setting for your special event, corporate meeting or wedding, and want a venue that is a little bit off the beaten path, The Ath is a wonderful place with easy access.

Though not really a castle, the Moorish-Spanish-Victorian style feels and looks like a castle. Located in the heart of Old Town Pasadena, the Castle Green was built in 1898 as the annex for the famous Hotel Green, and is literally situated off Green Street (and yes, some of the trim is indeed painted green). Castle Green is perfect for special events, weddings and photography and film projects. If you want your group to be in the middle of the city life in Pasadena, Castle Green is a perfect choice.

USC Pacific Asia Museum
Easily one of the more unique venues tucked away in the heart of Old Town is the Pacific Asia Museum. The museum is housed in a Chinese Qing dynasty-inspired mansion. With its permanent collection of dazzling Asian and Pacific Islander pieces, dating back 5,000 years, the museum lends a mysterious ambience to events hosted within. With a variety of spaces to accommodate different group sizes, a garden courtyard, and portions of the gallery available for events of all kinds, the USC Pacific Asia Museum is a dream for planners and guests alike.

Pasadena Museum of History
Don’t let the name fool you. The Pasadena Museum of History is an actual mansion - the Feynes mansion built in 1906. Classical turn of the century charm and elegance are prominently featured in this venue’s architectural style. Though events are only allowed in the Feynes Estate Garden, the backdrop of the mansion adds a certain Gatsby-ish opulence to its outdoor fetes. The Feynes Mansion is also a popular film location, with the likes of actors Douglas Banks, Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale having filmed there. Who wouldn’t want to host an event in such a truly glamorous location?
