Think an event needs to be a huge wedding, conference or marketing activation? As a planner, we often think in terms of scheduling, room blocks, budget and ROI. We are often in the mode of serving our client. What about serving ourselves as planners?
I recently attended and participated in a networking event that was purely an activation event. Event Planners Association hosted an event for members of the event industry with a paint & sip event that was so much fun!
The purpose of the event was to meet other planners and suppliers, have sips of water, wine or a cocktail, and paint a picture created by the artist and owner of Palate and Palette. Mostly, it was an extremely enjoyable evening of letting our creativity run rampant, chat and laugh with the other planner-artists and set our planner mode in park. No thoughts of ROI, agendas, budget, food and beverage ratios - just me, my palette, paint and brush. And a masterpiece.
But if you must think of planning an event for a client, why not go the route of an unconventional event, and host an activation event where participants get hands-on and immersed in the event. Like this paint & sip evening.
