As much as entertainment and the media extol “bad” virtues and make fun of straight-laced, conservative personas, the lasting impression always come from the personalities that were indeed “nice” and “good”.
Andy Griffith, famously known as the Sheriff of Mayberry and in later years, “Matlock” passed away today.
The Andy Griffith Show is well-known by most people and I would venture to say that most of us watched and/or have watched the show. Taking place in a small “hick” town, the show centered around the lives of the people of Mayberry, with Sheriff Andy Taylor, played by Andy Griffith as the town’s father figure and leader.
His character was kind and good-hearted. He displayed wisdom and resolve. He demanded integrity and good character from his deputy, making sure to instill the same in his son, Opie (played by the young Ron Howard).
In an era of television where there was no cussing, heaving make-outs, nudity and blatant violence, The Andy Griffith show portrayed the central theme of common decency and respect for oneself and for others. And Mr. Andy Griffith himself, seemed to live those kinds of values in his real life.
Upon his passing are there any scandals or ill-reputed stories being passed around about Andy Griffith? Are there any seedy and ugly stories ruminating about him? Has a shocking story been revealed and exposed?
“Goody-goody” Andy Griffith remained an iconic “star” in a town that is constantly rocked by stories fit for “The Enquirer”.
Though I am sure he was not perfect, Mr. Griffith displayed a quiet strength of character that, I am sure, helped him weather the ups and downs of life as a Hollywood actor.
Like so few other “nice guys” in the biz, I am glad to read nothing but kind things about Andy Griffith at his passing.
You see? Being good , kind and nice can make for “success”. Money and fame can be ripped away in an instant. But a good reputation will last and last and last.
RIP, Andy Griffith! And God bless your family.
